In a bowl, wash the rice in several changes of cold water until the water runs clear

In a large heavy saucepan, combine the rice with the cinnamon stick, cloves, water, salt, and oil

Bring the mixture to a boil and cook the rice, covered, over low heat until the rice is tender and the liquid is absorbed, about 15 minutes
